The Best Gas Slide-In Ranges for 2024

Slide-in ranges not only look better in your kitchen but are also easier to use.

Those are really the only two reasons to consider one.

With a slide-in range, you don’t have to reach across hot burners to access the oven controls, and you get an unobstructed view of your backsplash—no backguard in the way.

As you’ve probably learned from our articles, both slide-in ranges and counter-depth refrigerators are cost-effective ways to enhance your kitchen’s appearance without breaking the bank.

In this article, I’ll walk you through the best gas slide-in models, features, and brands to consider.

You’ll learn about the common features, unique benefits, reliability, and even what to avoid.

Let’s get started.

Freestanding vs. Slide-In Ranges

You probably already know the basics: freestanding ranges have the controls on the back, while slide-ins have them on the front.

Freestanding ranges also come with finished sides, so you can place them at the end of your kitchen without any issues.

Slide-ins, on the other hand, have unfinished sides, which means you don’t want to put one at the end of a row unless you’re ready for an unfinished look.

Here’s the kicker: most slide-ins are actually front control ranges, including four of the five on this list.

So, before you buy, make sure you know what kind of range you’re replacing—this will save you from headaches later.

Differences Between Front Control and Slide-In Ranges

Let’s break down the key differences between front control and slide-in ranges.

Slide-In Ranges

Bosch-Slide-In-Range-with-sides-overlapping-counter

This type of range overlaps the top of your counter, eliminating seams and making it easier to clean.

That said, if you’re replacing a freestanding range, you may need to make some minor cabinet adjustments

Popular Slide-In Range Brands:

Front Control Ranges

Front control ranges are designed to replace a freestanding range without overlapping the counter. It’s much easier to install and replace in the future.

However, it does have visible seams on the sides, unlike the seamless design of a slide-in range.

Popular Front Control Range Brands:

  • KitchenAid
  • JennAir
  • Whirlpool
  • LG
  • GE Appliance
  • SKS
  • Samsung
  • All professional ranges

Similarities Across Gas Ranges

Despite the differences, these ranges share a lot of features.

Burners: Most ranges have five burners, including one for a griddle. Café Appliance’s gas range hassix burners, and two of them are under the grill.

High-Output Burners: All of these ranges feature two high-output burners (15,000 BTUs or more) up front, where you’re likely to do most of your cooking.

Smart Features: They also come with smart functionality, so you can control your stove remotely.

By the way, we’re not convinced on Air Fry mode just yet. The ovens are just too big to move the air properly for consistent results.

Now that you know the differences, let’s look at the best gas slide-in ranges you can buy today.

The Best Gas Slide-In Ranges for 2024

Most Popular: Bosch HGI8056UC

It’s no surprise that Bosch gas ranges are a popular choice.

Maybe it’s their sleek, modern design that sets them apart, or perhaps it’s their reliability and support after the sale.

Either way, Bosch’s industrial style is a favorite.

Bosch-800-Series-Gas-Slide-In-Range-HGI8056UC

The Bosch cooktop comes with five burners, just like other models on this list—except for the Café double oven range.

Bosch features two high-powered burners delivering 18,000 and 15,000 BTUs, along with three other less powerful burners.

Oven Size

The oven is on the smaller side at 4.8 cubic feet but still features convection, just like the others on this list.

Warming Drawer

Bosch-HGI8056UC-Warming-Drawer

Bosch includes a warming drawer at the bottom.

Now, nobody really talks about warming drawers as a cool feature, but they cost $1,000+ to buy separately.

So listen up 🙂

If you’re someone who cooks at one time and serves later, a warming drawer might be just what you need.

It keeps food warm for up to three hours without dehydrating it or turning it into mush like a microwave.

Remember: Bosch is the only true slide-in on this list, so you’ll need some minor modifications when switching from a freestanding range.

Most Reliable: LG Studio LSGS6338F

Burners

The burners on this LG model are extremely hot, with 22,000 and 20,000 BTU burners, along with a 10,000 BTU griddle burner and 9,100 and 5,000 BTU burners.

For context, the max output of a Thermador Pro is 18,000, Miele is 19,500, and JennAir and Wolf are 20,000.

So, LG is definitely playing in the big leagues with these two burners.

LG Oven Size

LG-Studio-Gas-Slide-In-Range-LSGS6338F-Oven-

The LG Studio LSGS6338F comes with a large 6.3-cubic-foot oven featuring pure convection.

Pure vs. Regular Convection

The difference between pure (or true/European) convection and regular convection is where the heat is generated.

In pure convection, the heat comes from the rear, and the fan projects it throughout the oven.

Regular convection, on the other hand, generates heat from the bottom and then distributes it with a fan.

Pure convection is technically better because the heat is more even, so your cookies should have the same color and texture on all the racks.

InstaView

LG-Studio-Induction-Range-LSIS6338F

The oven also features an InstaView window, allowing you to tap the glass to adjust the brightness and get a clear view of what’s cooking inside.

Smart Camera

The range is now equipped with a camera, so you can check on your food from an app on your phone.

But let’s be honest—the best feature of this range is its reliability.

LG is always at the top of our rankings because they manufacture more appliance components than most other brands.

GE Profile’s gas slide-in range has a powerful 21,000 BTU burner. It’s hotter than most professional range burners. That’s two and a half times more power than our parents’ stoves.

Best Oven and Burner Output: Café Appliances CGS750P2MS1

Let’s settle what a double oven really is first.

Many brands, like KitchenAid, Frigidaire, and JennAir, will claim to have a double oven, but really, they just have a baking drawer below the main oven.

That doesn’t count.

One notable Samsung range comes with Flex Duo, a feature that allows you to divide the oven into two sections.

You can cook two dishes at different temperatures simultaneously.

However, keep in mind that both sections can’t handle vastly different temperatures at the same time.

Café Oven Size

Café’s double oven range is the largest, with a total of seven cubic feet—2.7 cubic feet on top and 4.3 cubic feet in the lower oven.

Cafe-Appliances-CGS750P2MS1-Gas-Range-Oven-Size

Café’s double oven is the best because each oven runs independently and can be used simultaneously without affecting each other’s temperature.

The lower oven is just 0.5 cubic feet smaller than Bosch’s, and you get an additional oven.

Looking at the lower oven, I know what you’re thinking—lifting that bird from almost the ground is a chore.

And you’re right.

But the smaller, waist-high upper oven is perfect for baking batches of cookies or casseroles without having to crouch down.

Ultimately, whether or not the Café Appliances CGS750P2MS1 range is right for you depends on your cooking needs and preferences.

It’s always a good idea to see the range in person before making a final decision to ensure it’s the perfect fit for your kitchen.

Cooktop

Cafe-Appliances-CGS750P2MS1-Gas-Range-CooktopThe cooktop has six burners, making it the only 30-inch model with that many.

You might think six is excessive—I did too—but two of them combine for a 19,000 BTU griddle.

You also have 21,000 and 15,000 BTU burners.

This Café range is one of the highest output ranges on the market, even including pro ranges, with a total of 73,000 BTUs.

That’s hot.

Customization

Tired of stainless steel? You can get this range in white or black.

I know, no big deal. But you can further customize it with six handle styles, including brass, black, and copper.

Best Service Network: GE Profile PGS930YPFS

If you like some of Café’s features but want to save some money, check out the GE Profile.

Burners

GE-Profile-PGS930YPFS-Gas-Range-Cooktop

The GE Profile gas slide-in range has that powerful 21,000 BTU burner.

It’s hotter than most professional range burners—two and a half times more powerful than the stoves our parents used.

This range also has a 15,000 BTU power burner on the other side and a griddle burner in the middle.

GE-Profile-PGS930YPFS-Gas-Range-Cooktop-with-Griddle

There are two additional burners at the back, one with 9,500 BTUs and another with 5,000 BTUs.

These back burners probably won’t get much use, but they’re there if you need them.

Convection Oven

GE-Profile-PGS930YPFS-Gas-Range-Oven-Size

The GE Profile gas range includes a convection oven like the others, but it’s regular, not pure, like LG’s.

The oven size is average, at 5.6 cubic feet.

Why GE?

One of the main reasons to buy GE Profile, Café Appliances, or any GE product is their service department.

This is particularly valuable if you purchase from a store that doesn’t offer a repair department.

Last year alone, we handled over 37,000 service calls in Eastern Massachusetts. Their service department is now called Bodewell—for whatever reason.

But regardless of the name, their service is solid, and that’s what matters.

Most Stylish: Samsung NX60T8711SS

We don’t sell Samsung anymore, but you’ve got to give them props for designing a beautiful range.

The whole industry had to step up their game in response to better-looking appliances.

Burners

Samsung-Gas-Slide-In-Range-NX60T8711SS-Cooktop

Samsung has the most powerful single burner at 22,000 BTUs, followed by 16,000 BTUs, and then the standard burners at 10,000, 9,500, and 5,000 BTUs.

Oven Size

The oven is on the larger side at 6.0 cubic feet.

Service Concerns

While Samsung is known for producing reliable appliances, their lack of appliance service availability can be a drawback.

I did speak to their National Service Manager, Nick. He wanted me to assure you that Samsung’s service is decent.

He even invited you to call him directly with any questions or issues.

Side Note: Samsung slide-ins have a recall on the knobs because they’re so easy to turn, especially by children and even pets. Keep this in mind if you’re considering this model.

Gas Range Reliability

cafe-appliances-slide-in-gas-range-griddle

Reliability is a big deal when choosing a gas range, and a few brands stand out.

Based on over 37,000 service calls, LG and GE are the most reliable gas range brands.

In general, gas ranges require fewer repairs than other appliances, with only 6.5% needing service in the first year compared to 9.5% for others.

The most common issue is a faulty ignitor. Even if that happens, you’ll still have four working burners to keep cooking.

Pro Tip: Always make sure there are appliance services available in your area. And don’t forget to check reviews on Google, Yelp, and the Better Business Bureau (BBB) before you make your choice.

Key Takeaways

First, understand the difference between front control and slide-in ranges. You don’t want to have to “notch” (industry term for cutting) your counters to fit a slide-in range.

Cutting counters, especially granite, is risky. No delivery company in the world will cut granite when delivering.

Once you’ve got that sorted, choosing your new range comes down to finding features and benefits that match your cooking style.

You should also know who can fix that double oven gas range if something goes wrong.

Finding competent repair technicians is just as important as selecting the right features and benefits. Spending time researching the best repair shops is well worth it.

After that, it really depends. You have some great choices, whether it’s the style of Bosch and Samsung or the power and reliability of LG.

You can also consider the double oven option from Café.
