How to Buy a Miele Dishwasher

Miele-g7000-series-dishwasher

Buying a Miele dishwasher can be tricky. I write these articles to help make sense of the products we sell.

The first letter and number, like “G7” or “G5”, indicate the series.

This article focuses on the G 7000 series, while the G 5000 series is a slightly more affordable option.

The numbers that follow the series identifiers specify the model. For example, in G 7986 SCVi K2O, “7986” identifies the specific model in the G 7000 series.

The extra letters after the model number usually describe the style. Here’s a quick breakdown:

Model Differences Explained:

  • SCU: Stainless steel with front controls.
  • SCVI: Panel-ready with top controls.
  • SCVISF: Stainless steel, top controls, and a PureLine handle.
  • SCVISFP: Top controls with a pocket handle.
  • K2O: Includes the Knock to Open door automation

Now that you know how to read Miele’s model numbers, let’s dive into why you should consider buying one.

Why Buy a Miele Dishwasher: Miele’s Best Features

Washing System

Miele-Dishwasher-g-7000-Series-Wash-Arm

Miele has a well-designed washing system with three full spray arms. It seems straightforward, but many brands don’t offer this.

For example, Bosch has two spray arms plus a sprinkler head, while KitchenAid’s better dishwashers have four levels—though the top wash arm is smaller, and the fourth level is simply holes in the rack.

Drying Capability

Miele-Panel-Ready-G-7186-SCVi-Dishwasher-Controls-and-Cycles

Miele used to have the best drying system, and it’s still excellent today.

There’s an intake that allows cooler air to enter the side of the dishwasher.

The hot, steamy air inside is attracted to the cooler air and condenses as water, which is then dissipated.

The dishwasher door pops open to release any excess condensation.

Note: This is a great feature, especially if you wash your dishes before bed. The residual steam won’t reform a thin layer of moisture on your glasses.

Full disclosure: I have a Miele dishwasher.

Bosch now has its CrystalDry system, which uses the volcanic element zeolite to completely dry dishes, even plastic.

KitchenAid has developed a similar system to Miele, using a fan to intake air and an added element to dry any remaining moisture.

Double Insulated Pump

Every brand offers some form of leak detection, but Miele takes it a step further with a double-insulated pump.

This provides extra peace of mind, especially if you live on the 37th floor of a tower in Seaport or any other city.

Dishwasher Racks

Miele-G5006SCU-dishwasher-racks

Miele’s racks, especially in the G 7000 series, are exceptional. Anything in orange can be flipped up or removed, allowing you to fit odd-shaped dishes or platters.

The bottom rack in the G 7000 series has more options to hold almost anything, including a place for metallic reusable straws.

FYI: Almost every brand now includes a third rack on the top for silverware.

However, Miele allows you to secure your flatware so it doesn’t get scratched during the wash. The third rack is also detachable, making it easy to carry to your silverware drawer.

Miele AutoDos with PowerDisk (G 7193 Series and up)

Miele-Dishwasher-g-7000-Series-Dishwasher-leak-protection-(1)

Starting with the G 7193 series, you can now load up to 20 dishwasher loads of detergent at once.

The machine will automatically calculate the right time and temperature to release the detergent.

I know what you’re thinking—your pods work just fine. I still use pods in my older Miele. However, clients report the cleanest dishes using the AutoDos system.

It’s also convenient to load up 20 cycles without having to refill every time.

Miele’s detergent comes in “PowerDisk” form, with 20 detergent loads for $12.99. Or, if you’re feeling adventurous, you can buy six PowerDisks for $69.99.

But let’s be real—$69.99 can also buy you a ton of pods.

New Miele G 7000 Series Dishwasher Review 2025

The model numbers are all different. This is what I received from Miele:

Confusing, isn’t it? Don’t worry—I’ve sorted through the details for you.

Below, we’ll break down the differences between all G 7000 series models and highlight their new features.

Here are some of Miele’s most popular dishwasher models from the G 7000 series:

Miele G 7000 Series Dishwashers: Prices

Equally confusing, but the line ranges from $1,749 to $3,699.

Miele G 7000 Series Dishwashers: Quietness

The new dishwashers are quieter.

Silence Rating (dB)

Extra Quiet Rating (dB)
Miele G 7100 and G 7200 Series 42 39
Miele G 7700 and G 7900 Series 39 37

Miele now boasts the quietest dishwasher on the market, with a 37-decibel (dB) silence rating.

Ironically, this doesn’t matter much.

You won’t hear anything at or below 44 decibels, even in an open kitchen. So, being quieter than what’s already silent doesn’t really make a difference.

The extra-quiet feature works by slowing down the mechanical action of the machine, extending the cycle up to 4 hours.

This won’t affect performance, but the cycle will take longer due to the reduced speed.

Miele G 7000 Series Dishwashers: Rack Improvements

Miele-Dishwasher-g-7000-Series-Third-Rack

Miele’s G 7000 series dishwashers include a few useful rack features designed to make loading simpler and more convenient:

  • StrawClean: First off, StrawClean is one word. It’s a dedicated spot to hold your metal straws so they get properly cleaned.
  • MultiClip: Again, one word for some reason. Anyway, the MultiClip allows you to secure those annoying small items—like lids and small bowls—so they don’t slide around in your dishwasher.
  • FlexCare Glass & Bottle: Miele has redesigned the shelves to more securely hold larger bottles and glasses.
  • XL Assist: The bottom rack can now hold larger items like frying pans.

Miele G 7000 Dishwashers: Extra Comfort vs. MaxiComfort Basket Design

The two are basically the same, except that the MaxiComfort basket includes an extra cup holder and the new StrawClean feature.

The higher-end G 7700 and G 7900 series come with the MaxiComfort shelves.

Cycle Differences Between the Miele G 7100 & G 7700 Series Dishwashers

Miele-Dishwasher-g-7000-Series-Cycles-2024

The G 7100 and G 7700 series dishwashers offer a range of unique features that set them apart.

Here are the key differences between their cycles:

  • Knock2Open: Tap the dishwasher three times, and it opens automatically. You don’t need to install a handle, which adds a sleek design element.
  • Intense Zone: A longer wash cycle for the lower basket with a higher temperature.
  • Sensor Wash: This cycle measures the “turbidity” (industry term for leftover food and liquid on your dishes) to ensure the correct time and temperature for washing.
  • Extra Dry: Increases the final rinse temperature and extends the drying phase at the end of the cycle.
  • Brilliant Light : LED lighting inside the dishwasher.

Differences Between the Miele G 7700 & G 7900 Series Dishwashers

The G 7900 series brings even more advanced features compared to the G 7700 series.

Here’s what’s new:

  • Cycle for Tall Items: A warm wash rinse with no rinse aid, designed for tall items.
  • Soak Cycle: Ideal for heavily soiled dishes that need extra soaking time.
  • 5-Year Warranty: Offers extended protection for your investment.
  • Touch Controls: Operates with the same swipe features as your smartphone. (It’s pretty cool!)

Comparing the New Miele G 7000 to Bosch, SKS, and KitchenAid Dishwashers

The new features of the Miele G 7000 series include added quietness (which you probably won’t notice) and a few tweaks to the bottom rack that could be useful.

Honestly, I wouldn’t call that much of an improvement.

That said, the original G 7000 series was a major step up from the G 6000 series a few years ago.

Still, these updates don’t really warrant a whole article—unless, of course, you’re comparing it to other new dishwashers from Bosch, KitchenAid, and SKS (LG’s high-end brand).

Each of those comparisons could be its own article (and probably should be).

But for now, here are the highlights:

Bosch Benchmark SHX9PCM5N vs. Miele G 7216 SCU

Bosch-Benchmark-SHX9PCM5N-vs-Miele-G-7000-Series-Dishwasher

The Bosch Benchmark is their best dishwasher, priced at $1,749.

Bosch continues to lead in drying, thanks to their CrystalDry system, which uses volcanic elements to dry even plastics.

However, Miele outshines Bosch in washing, with three levels of cleaning. (We tested both, by the way. You can see the video here.)

Miele’s racking system is also better, offering more adjustability and making it easier to fit larger and oddly shaped items.

SKS vs. Miele G 7000 Series Dishwashers

SKS-vs-Miele-Dishwashers

The SKS dishwasher is an interesting option. It uses steam to power through stains and aid in the drying process.

Its oblong spray arms are designed to cover more surface area, at least according to the specs.

The SKS line is also more affordable.

That said, Miele still wins when it comes to washing performance and racking flexibility.

Miele’s advanced drying system, which pulls in air and pops open the door to release steam, comes close to Bosch’s CrystalDry.

KitchenAid KDTM604KPS vs. Miele G 7000 Series Dishwashers

KitchenAid-vs-Miele-Dishwashers

KitchenAid recently introduced a new dishwasher (in 2022) with four levels of washing.

Their top models, the 704 and 804, are overhyped and overpriced.

The 604, however, is worth considering and is a bargain at around $1,099.

Still, Miele performs better in washing, drying, and rack usability. However, to KitchenAid’s credit, their top rack can hold more.

New Miele G 7000 Dishwashers: Key Takeaways

While the new G 7000 series may not bring any major surprises, it still stands out as the best overall when you look at washing, drying, and racking performance.

Of course, there are plenty of other brands to consider, especially if you’re looking for more affordable alternatives.
